Eli Edward Evangelidis (2018)
The calendar announced spring,
but the sky didn’t bring a bounty of green.
The heartland is mud and blood
loss and flood … amber waves unseeded.
In the valley of misery politics budgets war,
gives dimes to poor, and high fives the religion of
division.
Even when the sky turns blue few notice the hue,
because they’re sorting through calamity fearing the next
tragedy.

Outstanding, Susie. Love all the internal rhyming.
ReplyDeleteNot encouraging at all, huh? Will singing "Blue Skies" be of help? I'm liking your term, the religion of division. It fits.

I think you set up the metaphoric scenario so very well. I wondered if someone might view the landscape as a modern analogy, and this does not disappoint. Thank you for participating.
ReplyDeleteI wonder if we dare to see that the sky is blue despite the battlefield green of the fields
