The Dystopian Tarot, The Lovers
Kerry O'Connor
Go ahead, tempt me.
I like to cross the scarlet line
apple stained with reasons
I shouldn’t dance with the devil.
Really? He was the snake
who told me a tree was a gaslight
who told me a tree was a gaslight
to fool me a book of ribs
wasn't already being planned
to write me into submission.

Alas the world was against her already from the start (as written by a man)
ReplyDeleteLove that last line, Susie.
ReplyDeletethey were both tempted, she by the serpent, Adam by Eve... and a woman will redeem them - (Mary, a woman, whom the serpent was afraid of). Seems tables did turn...
ReplyDeleteBut I like your take on it too - your words are always well thought out. the last two of the first stanza are all kinds of awesome!
‘Scarlet Gaslight’ is such an apt title, Susie, and I love the lines:
ReplyDelete‘I like to cross the scarlet line
apple stained with reasons’.
This is absolutely fantastic, Susie! I loved every word!!❤️
ReplyDeleteAh, that scarlet line is ever so tempting.. Such an amazing response - I love how you handled the tone throughout the poem. Thanks, Susie.
