Among Visions

November skeletons itself
into the pumpkin remains
of ghost walkers, and raises
its bare limbs to summon
thanksgiving from its cave
in the apple pie crumble.

Pens, poets, and prophets
kneel among visions searching
for candles that still have enough wick
to support a match strike of wisdom.

Spirits of resurrection cackle beneath thin ice.

  1. Love the alliteration, the way it plays on my tongue and what it says. End the ending cackling is pure delight.

  2. I was nodding my head, going, mmm hmmm, after every finished thought. What a time of year for endings, for honoring the good things that continue, and for beginnings we may not want to see.A beautiful resonant bit of writing, dear Susie. Thanks so much for playing, and may your weekend kick ass.

  3. Susie--it is rather odd how we have now begun the "holiday season" at Haloween, the celebration of spooky, scary, and death leading through the eaten candy to the better placed meal of Thanksgiving to the Christmas and finally so many months later the resurrection at Easter.

Seems you got a lot in 55 words--kicked some ass here.
