Scissoring the Wind

Out on the steel of bright blue sky

I carry the moon on my lips.

I dance between my light and dark,

hold sunshine on my fingertips

while my toes search shadows.

Freedom is taking scissors to the wind

to cut my own map before I’m caught

in the choice of someone else’s direction.

  1. It's good to cut your own map isn't it? Our youngest granddaughter was doing that, literally before she could even read. Now she uses GPS from her cell phone, in the back seat of course.

  4. Scissoring the wind is the wonderful kind of phrase that sticks in the attic of the mind. Cutting one's own map requires endless scissoring! Great poem.

  7. The last stanza is telling! We just have to be extra careful and not to be that emotional. Good advice Susie!
