The Valley of the Sky

Leave by the same door
you tore from hinges,
spill rumor, feed snakes.

My life is not yours to barter,
nor is it yours to take.

It doesn’t matter how close
you dance me to the cliff,
blood will never clip my wings.

  1. No wing-clipping possible, with you, my friend! Powerful.

  2. No. I have a feeling blood will never clip your magnificent wings.

  3. Tale of the spurned woman who has spirit. It does get better when he/she is gone. Do you remember the C/W song, "Thank God and Greyhound, she's gone?" The last verse tells to me vividly of the spunk and resistance the she/he has. (Tonight mine fell off but I didn't give reasons or background.)

  4. It is so good to see women stand up and assert themselves. Luckily I was brought up with strong women so I don't shudder with concern.

  7. I like the spin you put on the catch phrase, Susie. You always speak with a powerful, independent voice.

Tell it like it is. He'll relent!

  11. Glad you are taking up the hammer with poems like these. I'm encouraged to hear a shriek in the chorus. We are not defined by pretty poems, sustained neither by deserts!

  12. You always have a very strong voice— so apparent here. Take care with all going on. All best. K.

  13. This seems a little scary? She is speaking to the one who tore the door from its hinges, I hope he doesn't want to clip your wings!! Strong words!!
