They don’t like to kiss and tell.
Once private finds its way
to the birdcage it revolves
on the tongue of the spin.
Gossip likes to twist
what is into what isn't.
It slanders in hashtags,
jollies with trending,
supports the scrape
in the bottom of the barrel.
It isn’t about hiding.
It isn’t about dividing.
Love is love …
They don’t need to debate,
attach labels, dance beneath rainbows,
closet to soothe the unforgiving.
They don’t like to kiss and tell.
Private isn’t shame … It’s refusing
to tarnish bliss by placing it
among dirty laundry.

What a brilliant piece of artwork.
Well said. It's an awful thing to believe that everyone else's business is somehow one's own business, including other people's bodies and who another person may be in a consensual relationship with. Very tawdry indeed.
ReplyDeleteI love the line about putting bliss with the dirty laundry.
ReplyDeleteSlander in hashtags... the bane of our times..nicely put!!

This is beautifully haunting!!❤️
Commenting on this comes hard, Susie. Such a wonderful build on the "kiss and tell" admonition we all say so glibly. More lately the worn "stays in Vegas." Picking a verse, my favorite is iterating on the sin of gossip, the very worst is always at the bottom of the barrel. Cliches are at home in this one. Good job.
